Polliwog (Beginner Level I)
This class is the beginning level for school-age children 6 years old and up. It gets children acquainted with the pool, the use of flotation devices and floating. To graduate from Polliwog the child should be able to swim the front, back, and side paddle 20 feet without assistance. Children will also learn water sports, rescue skills, and play games.
Guppy (Beginner Level II)
The children at this level continue to practice and build upon basic skills without the use of flotation devices. They are introduced to variations of front and back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke and elementary backstroke. Children will be able to swim rudimentary swim strokes 25 yards, the length of the pool, without assistance before passing this level.
Minnow (Intermediate Level I)
This is the intermediate level. Children at this level further refine their stroke skills from guppy, as their strokes look more like normal. To pass this level, students must swim 25 yards of front alternating paddle, front symmetrical paddle, side alternating paddle with scissors kick, back alternating stroke and back symmetrical paddle.
Fish (Intermediate Level II)
Perform the crawl stroke, elementary backstroke, back crawl stroke, breaststroke and the sidestroke, with turns. In this level they are introduced to the butterfly stroke. To pass this level, students must swim 50 yards of crawl stroke, elementary backstroke, back crawl stroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and 15 yards of butterfly.
Porpoise Club - Advanced Swimmers (ages 7 and up)
For swimmers who have mastered Fish skills or have advanced training. Swimmers should be able to swim freestyle for 25 yards (length of pool). Under the guidance of an instructor, swimmers will learn to improve their endurance and stroke efficiency. Although this is a non-competitive group, swimmers will learn principles of competitive swimming. They will also participate in fun games and activities. Goggles and swim caps recommended for swimmers.
