Making a Difference Every Thanksgiving

We believe every family deserves a special meal on Thanksgiving, and that’s why for the 8th year, our North Valley Family YMCA provided Thanksgiving food baskets to 10,000 deserving San Fernando Valley residents. Nominated by local school principals, community groups and the North Valley Family Y, 3,000 families received enough food to feed a family of four. Read More…

West Valley Family YMCA Raises $50,000 at its 1st Annual 10K Missile Run & Two Mile Family Fun Run

On November 15, 2014, our West Valley Family YMCA held its First Annual 10k Missile Run & Two Mile Family Fun Run at Marvin Braude Mulholland Gateway Park in Tarzana. This fundraiser promoted the importance of physical activity, as 290 adults and kids ran, walked and jogged along the hilly terrain, and Los Angeles City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield spoke to the crowd. Raising $50,000, proceeds from this inaugural event will directly support the West Valley Family YMCA’s financial assistance and community outreach programs. Read More…

The one question that can save a life

Living in Southern California where beaches, lakes and pools are so accessible, it’s shocking to learn that, in our communities, 70% of African-American and 60% of Latino children cannot swim. It is also surprising to read that if a parent doesn’t know how to swim, there’s also a 13% chance a child in that household will not learn either. This is why providing swim instruction to all of our neighbors – especially those in Los Angeles’ urban communities – is one of our organization’s top priorities. Read More…

Hollywood Wilshire YMCA’s 11th Annual “Comedy For A Cause” Lit Up the Sunset Strip

Some of Hollywood’s funniest comedians came out for our Hollywood Wilshire YMCA’s 11th Annual Comedy For A Cause fundraiser at the Sunset Strip’s world-famous Laugh Factory on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Always an evening of side-splitting laughter, Comedy For A Cause brings together acclaimed comedians who have generously volunteered their time and talent to perform stand-up comedy routines in an effort to help raise money for the Hollywood Wilshire Y. This year, the show successfully raised $60,000 which will directly support the Y’s impactful youth programs. Read More…
