News Update: YMCA Puts $20,000 Grant to Work with Afterschool Child Care Programs
With a $20,000 grant from the Dwight Stuart Youth Foundation, North Valley Family YMCA has added classes in anime, Japanese language and culture, Hawaiian dance, tennis, comedy improvisation, chess and nutrition, among others, to its educational enrichment programs provided to school children during the YMCA’s afterschool child care program.
“We are grateful for this recent, major gift from the Dwight Stuart Youth Foundation,” said North Valley Executive Director Jane Stanton. “When combined with funds provided by other contributors, it enables us to enrich our child care curriculum. It helps the YMCA go beyond routine child care to provide craft, culture and athletic classes for kids at no additional cost to parents, which can be a big help in a down economy.”
Other funders include the Employees Community Fund of Boeing, CA and Northrop Grumman ECHO Fund. Founded in 1945, North Valley Family YMCA is the largest social service organization in the San Fernando Valley, serving 12,000 members at its Porter Ranch facility and 25,000 kids and families offsite in athletic, child care, family and other programs.
