Who can participate at the YMCA?

Everyone is welcome - the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is a membership organization open to all people: women and men, girls and boys of all ages, races, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientation, abilities and financial circumstances. Programs and branches embrace diversity, reflecting the needs and composition of the communities they serve. Financial assistance, to the extent possible, is available for those in need.

What makes the Y unique?

The Y is a values-based, character-building, nonprofit membership organization that plays a vital role in contributing to the community. Our values of respect, responsibility, honesty, caring, faith and fun are in everything we do. We plan our high-quality programs around essential elements to help kids grow up caring and responsible. Our staff is caring, competent and experienced. Our training includes safety, management modules, CPR, First Aid and more.

At the Y, young people can develop new skills, increase self-esteem, and make new friends while having fun in safe, nurturing environments. Families can build stronger bonds by engaging in activities together. Seniors can socialize and improve their health, while adults can find release from their busy lives. People of all ages and abilities can build a healthier spirit, mind and body while becoming more engaged in their communities.

How much does it cost to become a member?

YMCA fees vary depending on the category of membership you choose. There is a one-time joining fee and monthly membership fees. There is no contract so you can stop or place your membership on hold at any time. Membership categories include:

> Family Membership (one or two adults as well as all dependent children under 18)

> Adult Membership (18 years and older)

> Youth Membership (Ages 6-17)

> Choice Membership: Unlimited access to the 23 full facility YMCAs of Los Angeles

What happens if I can't afford the membership fees?

Through the generosity of donors, the YMCA is able to help if you can't afford the full membership fees. All YMCA members receive the same membership benefits, regardless of whether or not they are receiving financial assistance and your application is processed confidentially. Please speak to a Membership Representative for more information or call 310-325-5885.

Do you offer family memberships?

Yes. The YMCA’s Family Membership is for one adult or two adults and dependent children under 18 or full-time students under 22.

What is the YMCA Membership Satisfaction Guarantee?

Should you decide to stop your membership within the first 30 days, you may request and will receive a full refund of the joiner's fee and the unused portion of your monthly dues.

I am a member at another YMCA. Can I use the Torrance-South Bay YMCA?

Through the AWAY program, members from other YMCAs may visit the Torrance-South Bay YMCA up to 3 times per month, except during peak times Monday – Friday: 8 – 11 am and 4 - 8 pm. If you would like to come more often than that, please inquire at our membership desk and bring your current membership card.

Also, if you choose the Choice Membership, you'll enjoy the freedom to use all 23 of the full-facility YMCAs that are part of the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles.

What is included with membership?

As a Facility Member, you can use all the facilities and participate in many of the programs offered - as often as you want! There may, however, be additional fees for instructional programs, such as swimming lessons and martial arts. Check out your YMCA's programs for more information.

Do you offer child care while I exercise?

Fri, 8:15 am- 8:15 pm

Sat, 8:15 am - 5:45 pm

Can I drop off my kids at the Y?

Yes, your kids 12 years old and older can be at the YMCA without you. If your kids are under 12 you need to stay with them at the facility. Please click here for our youth policies.

Can I bring a guest with me?

Each adult can bring 6 guests per year. Please let your guest know they need to bring photo identification such as a driver's license and sign a liability waiver. If your guest is under 18, a parent or legal guardian will need to sign the liability waiver.

Can I visit the YMCA for just the day?

Yes, you can buy a day pass. That way, you will be considered a member for the day and can participate in as many programs as you like! You can also try a FREE 7-day guest pass.

How do I cancel my membership?

At the YMCA, there are no contracts for the length of your membership. If you need to cancel your YMCA membership, please drop by the membership desk 15 days before your automatic monthly fee transfer date so that we can stop the transfer.

How can I update my information with you if I move?

When you become a member, you will receive a YMCA User ID and Password allowing you to manage your membership account as well as register for programs and make a donation all online.

How can I put my membership on hold?

You may put your membership on hold 1, 2 or 3 months per calendar year. Please visit the membership desk at least 15 days prior to your draft. There is a $10 hold fee per month. You can not use the YMCA during the months that your membership is on hold status.
