Camp Whittle
Entering grades 6 - 9
Camp Whittle is the most popular camp, which is located in the mountains near Big Bear Lake. Ideal for new and returning campers. All campers will be in cabin groups with campers around their own grade level and under the guidance of a YMCA camp counselor and counselor in training. Highlights include campfires, swimming, archery, canoeing, camp dance, mountain bikes, banana boat, crafts, rope courses, rag and leather program, horseback riding and trained volunteer counselors. Swim test required for water activities.
Camp Whittle High Adventure Unit
Grade 8
Advanced adventurous outdoor activities to include advanced rock climbing, ropes course, mountain biking
and an outdoor overnight. Space is limited.
Camp Whittle Extreme Unit
Grade 9
Designed for the veteran camper. Activities to include, but not limited to extreme rock climbing, night time hikes, the climbing tower and challenge course. Also a four mile hike and overnight campout. Come join the adventure.
Camp Whittle A.M.P. Program (Formerly Known as Leadership Camp)
Grades 10 - 12
Don’t miss this opportunity for Adventure, Motivation and Personal Development (A.M.P). Campers stay in premier accommodations, located in the forest near Big Bear Lake. This enriching week is programmed for tomorrow’s future leader. We will focus on group building, public speaking, current events, fellowship, personal growth and fun while participating in traditional camp activities. Additional opportunities include a field trip and community service project in Big Bear. Apply early, this camp has filled quickly the last five years.
CIT Academy Program @ Camp Whittle — New Format
Ages 15 - 17
The CIT Academy is designed to provide 15–17 year olds an opportunity to acquire and develop the tools and skills necessary to become a true counselor, leader, guide and role model. CIT Academy program participants get 25 hours of training before camp, a camp staff t-shirt, room and board for seven days at camp, experienced training staff, interactive training sessions and skills that will translate to any workplace. CIT’s must attend mandatory training meetings prior to camp and are required to fill out an application and participate in a selection interview process. Some applicants may not be selected for this program. This program involves 2 tiers of participation. Tier One: CIT’s candidates who have never been a CIT, ages 15-17. Tier Two: CIT’s who have completed the CIT Academy or have been a CIT in the past at Camp Whittle or Round Meadow with Torrance-South Bay YMCA.
Counselor in Training Program @ Camp Round Meadow
Ages 16 - 17
The training and volunteer experience gained during this week away from home will help students gain confidence working with children. There is a fee for this program that covers training, supplies, food and lodging. Apply early so you can get involved in this summer. Trainings begin in May. Students are required to fill out an application, and they will be selected by an interview process. If selected, CITs are required to attend weekly trainings prior to camp.
White’s Landing: Catalina
Grades 7 - 10
Looking for an exotic island adventure this summer? White’s Landing in Catalina is the answer. After the cruise from Long Beach Harbor, campers can swim, kayak, snorkel, fish, lounge on the beach and participate in archery, arts and crafts, nature awareness activities, sports and campfire programs.
