Healthy Kids Day 2024! A DAY OF PLAY FOR LA (Sunday, April 21, 2024)

YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles

HEALTHY KIDS DAY® SUMMARY Get ready to join thousands of Angelenos in celebration of the 32nd Healthy Kids Day® (HKD), on Sunday, April 21, 2024! Healthy Kids Day® is the Y’s largest national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families. For over 30 years, the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles and our communities have hosted free community events aimed to inspire kids and families to keep their minds and bodies active throughout the summer months and beyond. This year will be no different as we highlight how the Y helps build healthy, resilient kids through programs, services, initiatives, advocacy, partnerships, social-emotional learning and more. In 2022, for the first time ever, the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles celebrated the 30th anniversary of Healthy Kids Day® by uniting the collective community impact of all 27 of our YMCA branches and all 153 of our YMCA program sites to hold one large, centralized Healthy Kids Day® event at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. We continued this effort in 2023, bringing thousands of Angelenos together to experience the Y and our community partners. This year, in 2024, we will return to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to once again host this amazing Day of PLAY for LA! Healthy Kids Day® is a free event, open to every member of the community. FROM CRADLE TO COMMUNITY WELL-BEING Healthy Kids Day® is one of the largest community-based health, sports and family events in Los Angeles. This year, we aim to connect this event to our cradle to community well-being youth development strategy which aims to help youth reach their best outcomes for success through programs, services, initiatives, partnerships and advocacy.

The YMCA Early Learning Readiness (ELR) program provides a stimulating environment to help children (0-5 years) develop the physical, verbal, and social skills which they'll need to be school-ready. During the program, caregivers learn how children develop and how to encourage skill building at home. Before early learners walk into a school classroom, their primary caregivers at home are their first teachers. Through this Caregiver & Child class, family will find a safe, fun place to play, explore, and learn through songs, stories, and family activities with their children. The YMCA is seeking program volunteers to assist with program set-up and program clean-up and to also assist the ELR Instructor with tasks during the program session, such as assisting with prepping supplies and materials, helping families check-in and greeting families when they arrive.
