Child Care
Coeur d'Alene Pre-K - Grade 5

As a partner with Coeur d’Alene Elementary School, the Westchester Family YMCA child care program enhances and complements the curriculum presented to your child at school.

Benefits include year-round care, before and after school care, 1:12 staff to child ratio and enrichment instructors with a background in education and child development. Curriculum includes homework time, fun enrichment classes and activities throughout the day and the chance to work with community organizations. We also have a part-time and full-time Pre-K program for our working parents who need extended care outside of the hours of Pre-K instruction at Coeur D’Alene. Our Pre-K program is open to all 4 and 5 year-olds who attend Pre-K at Coeur d’Alene Elementary School.

YMCA child care staff is CPR/first aid and water safety certified and fingerprinted to ensure quality and safety for your child. YMCA staff have also completed training and coursework in child development and early childhood education.

Financial assistance is available for families who, for one reason or another, are unable to afford child care fees. Please email Mary Ann Magliocco or call 213-639-3429 for more details.

Fun, Safe & Enriching
Licensed, on-site, before and after school programs at Palms Elementary School; focusing on the whole child and working to develop the 40 Developmental Assets in all children. The YMCA child care program curriculum consists of six components:
  • Homework Time/Educational Support
  • Character Development
  • Youth Fitness & Healthy Lifestyles
  • Recreation & Play
  • Family Involvement
  • Community Involvement

In addition to these core areas, the YMCA programs also offer children a wide variety of enrichment experiences. Our programs allow children to explore their interests and desires while building their self-esteem and gaining confidence and pride in their accomplishments.

The three enrichment areas that we focus on are Educational, Recreational and Fine Arts. We believe that these areas allow for the maximum growth and development of all children.

Educational Enrichment

We build programs into our curriculum that helps support what your child is already learning in school, such as Junior Achievement, Camp Boost, Student Newsletters, Writing Clubs, Science clubs, and much more!

Recreation Enrichment

With the decline of psychomotor programming in schools, Recreation Enrichments are essential in the out-of-school time environment. Our Recreation Enrichments give children the opportunity to learn new sports and sports-related skills while at the same time working on gross motor development, self-esteem and team building.

Fine Arts Enrichment

The fine arts foster students' abilities to develop problem solving skills, flexibility, creativity, cooperative approaches, persistence, and responsibility as well as oral and written language skills. In our Fine Arts Enrichment classes we nurture the artistic abilities of all children. Whether it be through visual or performing arts, we encourage children to participate in a variety of arts exploration in the hopes that they will find the best way to express themselves. Our club programs include: Cooking Club, Nature Club, Craft Club, Dancing Club, Jewelry Club, Painting Club, and much more!

Pre-K Program

The Coeur d’Alene YMCA Clubhouse also offers and extended care Pre-K program for Pre-K students. Our Pre-K program is a structured, quality time for Pre-K children, which provides a safe environment with qualified and caring staff, age appropriate hands on activities, kindergarten readiness, science exploration, multicultural exploration, dramatic play, character development and family events. Our curriculum focuses the developmental stages of group for the whole child, including visual arts, dramatic play, art, music, movement, language, literacy and social relations. Children must attend the Coeur d’Alene Elementary School Pre-K program to enroll in our YMCA Pre-K program.
