Y-Guides & Princesses
This program’s slogan “Pals Forever” couldn’t be truer. By setting aside a special time for parents and their children grades K-3, a bond is formed that will endure for years to come.
Each of approximately two dozen small groups — or “tribes” — usually meets one weekday evening per month at a member’s house. There they conduct a short meeting that often involves sharing experiences, storytelling, a craft or game, as well as refreshments.
Tribes also meet altogether once a month as the “Anopi Nation,” usually on a weekend for a larger event or camping trip. Parent volunteers organize activities for the tribe and Nation according to group interests and skills. The Native American theme is used respectfully to help focus the groups and to bring traditional, nature-themed values and an organizational structure into the program.
