What can I do?
Locally, nationally and throughout the world, volunteers founded the YMCA. Volunteers
started the Westside Family YMCA in 1941 and it has been led by volunteers, serving on the Board of Managers, ever since.
You can make a big difference.
As a YMCA volunteer, you can lead a group exercise class, coach a basketball team, greet people at the front desk, serve as a role model for young people, or help out at a special event. No matter how you help, your time and talent go a long way to strengthening yourself and others in spirit, mind and body. Here are just some examples of how you can help:
YMCA Ambassador
Welcome new members, encourage their participation in programs and introduce them to staff and other members. You should be a current, active member with general knowledge of the Y, friendly, outgoing and able to communicate your personal Y experiences. Training and volunteer prerequisites will be provided.
General Group Leader
Become a leader in your area of expertise from arts and crafts to hiking.
Group Exercise Instructor
Teach a current youth or adult level class or help create something new.
Youth & Government Volunteer
Help our high school teens learn more about how the government works. Your time is needed as a chaperone, moderator or as a role model for our youth.
Youth Sports Coach
Love to play sports and want to be a good role model to our youth? Y coaches oversee soccer and basketball practices, games, and interact with youth and parents. We can train you!
How do I apply?
Volunteers in YMCA programs go through a similar interview and training process as paid staff. This process ensures the best fit for new volunteers, while also ensuring the safety of our members, participants, staff, and other volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please call 310-477-1511 or print the Volunteer Interest Form.
