In recognition of the one-year anniversary of the Los Angeles wildfires, Bank of America announced a $1 million grant to the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles to\u00a0help rebuild the Lowe Family YMCA serving the Palisades-Malibu community that was destroyed by the fires. The Bank of America grant is the first and largest corporate award to date for the YMCA\u2019s $25 million capital campaign that was launched over the summer. The project is expected to break ground this spring, bringing new facilities and\u00a0additional\u00a0programs for working families and seniors in the community.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cAs we mark the first anniversary of the devastating fires, we also celebrate the incredible progress of the YMCA\u2019s efforts to rebuild its destroyed Via de la Paz site and a nearby campus,\u201d said <\/em>Raul Anaya, Bank of America president for Greater Los Angeles.<\/em><\/strong> \u201cThe wildfires destroyed so much \u2013 thousands of homes, businesses and communities \u2013 but it never destroyed L.A.\u2019s spirit. As a longtime supporter of the YMCA, we\u2019re proud to help bring this space back to life for so many residents, and encourage other donors to help bring this important effort over the finish line.\u201d  <\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lowe Family YMCA has served Palisades and Malibu area children, families and seniors for over 60 years. In response to the widespread displacement and trauma caused by the fires, the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles quickly mobilized through nearby centers and partner sites to deliver emergency childcare, case management, and trauma-informed care to thousands of residents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These efforts continue today,\u00a0but the long-term recovery of the community depends on restoring a permanent YMCA presence\u00a0in the area.\u00a0The YMCA of Metropolitan Los\u00a0Angeles\u00a0has\u00a0committed\u00a0to\u00a0replace\u00a0the burned site with\u202ftwo\u00a0new\u00a0resilient\u00a0campuses\u00a0–\u00a0one on\u00a0the original\u00a0Via de la Paz\u00a0site\u00a0and one at\u00a0the nearby\u00a0Simon Meadow\u00a0site. The\u00a0dual\u00a0campus\u00a0will\u00a0expand\u00a0programming around\u00a0youth development, mental health services,\u00a0emergency\u00a0preparedness\u00a0and multigenerational engagement.\u00a0In recognition of Bank of America\u2019s leading corporate donation, the new\u00a0Welcome Center at Palisades Via De La Paz\u00a0will be\u00a0named for Bank of America.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is more than just an act of generosity, it\u2019s a commitment of hope to our Palisades and Malibu communities – contributions like these are critical to help us rebuild, and ensure our doors will be open for generations to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
