Hollywood Wilshire YMCA’s 11th Annual “Comedy For A Cause” Lit Up the Sunset Strip

Some of Hollywood’s funniest comedians came out for our Hollywood Wilshire YMCA’s 11th Annual Comedy For A Cause fundraiser at the Sunset Strip’s world-famous Laugh Factory on Tuesday, October 21, 2014.  Always an evening of side-splitting laughter, Comedy For A Cause brings together acclaimed comedians who have generously volunteered their time and talent to perform stand-up comedy routines in an effort to help raise money for the Hollywood Wilshire Y.  This year, the show successfully raised $60,000 which will directly support the Y’s impactful youth programs.

Attendees were doubled over from laughter as comedic entertainers David Koechner, Iliza Shlesinger, Bill Burr, Dana Gould, Greg Fitzsimmons performed.

“What better way to support kids and families within the Hollywood community than with a night of comedy at the Laugh Factory,” said David Koechner, star of Anchorman and Anchorman 2.  “I love what the Hollywood Y stands for and all that it does for the community.”

The Hollywood Wilshire Y’s youth programs provide activities designed to help develop a child or teen’s character, leadership, health, and wellness.  More than 10,000 kids participate in these programs a year, and for many low-income youth, the Y may be their only resource for getting on the path to maturity, college and a brighter future.

“The support we’re getting from the Hollywood community is amazing,” says Laurie Goganzer, Executive Director and Senior Vice President of the Ketchum-Downtown, Hollywood Wilshire and Anderson Munger Family YMCA branches of the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles.  “We’re so grateful to be able to bring L.A. community members and some of the industry’s funniest people together in the same room to support our youth programs,” added Goganzer.

This one of a kind evening of laughs included a VIP reception where guests mingled with the performers and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and specialty drinks.  Past talent includes comedy greats such as Jay Leno, Tim Allen, George Lopez, Ray Romano, Andy Richter, Patricia Heaton, Rainn Wilson, B.J. Novak, and Mike O’Malley.
