Teen Leadership Programs

Feeling a sense of belonging, preparing for college, and developing attitudes that will shape their future are critically important during formative teenage years. That’s why we created programs where teens can feel safe, build their self-esteem, and connect with others.

Our teen programs and clubs are designed specifically to help teenagers learn important leadership and character development skills by participating in customized courses tailored for their age group and interests.

Youth Council Leaders Club

The North Valley Family YMCA Youth Council Leaders Club engages young people, grades 6-8, in a student-led forum that helps them gain leadership skills and allows them to contribute in civic, community and service learning. Participants will have the opportunity to build strong relationship, gain a sense of belonging and achieve more academically. In addition, participants will be able to complete volunteer hours and give back to their community. In this program we develop confidence, leadership, civic engagement, service learning, community involvement and public speaking skills. The Youth Council Leaders Club forums will discuss, plan, advocate and implement projects that address the needs of their community and school and that support the YMCA’s cause of Strengthening the Foundations of Community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

This program is free and open to both members and non-members in high school and middle school.
