On Sunday, April 13, we hosted our 33rd Annual Healthy Kids Day at the LA Memorial Coliseum. Over 12,000 free tickets were claimed to this event, where families and community members gathered for a fun day of play! Our event partners and sponsors along with our official partners set up their activation stations where youth got to play various sports such as basketball, ball hockey, soccer, tennis, and more. Kids got to learn best practices of these sports and mechanics of playing the sports such as ball control how to pass. Youth had the opportunity to play and exercise, and were inspired to live healthy lifestyles from these fun activities.
Aside from the various sports activations we had other various entertainment, Yesi Ortiz, “The Voice of LA,” a seasoned radio host and media professional with over two decades of experience in the music industry was our EMCEE for Healthy Kids Day. We had musical performances by several bands from the Westchester Family YMCA Battle of the Bands event last week. The youth bands Silverfish, House of Venice, Hiatus, and Dull Moon, had the opportunity to perform on stage for the thousands of people who attended, playing original and cover songs displaying their musical talent! We also had various dance performances from our youth, Mid Valley Family YMCA Hip Hop & Cheer, Collins & Katz Family YMCA Hip Hop, YMCA Dance Club at Northridge Acadamy High School K-Pop, North Valley Family YMCA Folklorico, West Valley Family YMCA Bollywood, and Montebello-Commerce YMCA Ballet.
