YMCA LA joins all of Los Angeles in mourning the loss of Dolores Huerta, an activist whose passion for championing the rights of workers, women, and immigrants taught generations of Americans that ordinary people can make a difference.

Huerta spent her life promoting dignity, opportunity, and the belief that every family deserves a chance to thrive. As the Center for Community Well-Being, LA Y will continue to do our part to make Huerta’s vision for Los Angeles and the world a reality.

Victor Dominguez, CEO, YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, says, “Dolores asked all of us to act and to organize, and to leave our communities stronger than we found them. At the Y, we will keep answering that call. Sí, se puede.”

Just last week, YMCA LA had the opportunity to celebrate Huerta’s service to Los Angeles at the 19th Annual Heart of the Family Awards. In the spirit of encouraging everyone in the community to do their part to make the world a better place and to echo sentiments expressed by Huerta’s daughter, Juanita Chavez, we encourage everyone to vote in the November 3 election.
