MLC Leadership
78th Delegate Leadership
Each year the delegations across the state of California YMCA Youth & Government elect their leaders in the Sacramento conference. This year's leadership is listed below.
Devon Jasiukonis
79th Youth Governor
Hello everyone! My name is Devon Jasiukonis, and I have the privilege of being California’s 79th Youth Governor! My Youth & Government journey began in seventh grade, when I served as Model UN President of the General Assembly, and continued through years of delegation leadership before I stepped into my role as Youth Governor this year. Outside of California Y&G, I’ve represented our state at National Advocacy Days, the National Changemakers Competition, the Governor’s Convention, the Conference on National Affairs (CONA), and World Council. Every day I’m able to serve and lead within this program has reminded me that politics can be a community if we decide to prioritize compassion and understanding. This year, I’m excited to strengthen our connection and communication as a program, state, and movement to ensure that we, the youth, can be the changemakers not just in the future, but starting today.
Zehra Naqvi
79th Youth Secretary of State
Hi! I’m Zehra Naqvi, and I am so honored to be serving as your 79th Secretary of State! As part of your statewide leadership, I am dedicated to creating greater unity, transparency, and voter education within our Youth & Government program. Outside of Y&G, I love to draw, sew, read thrillers, watch murder mysteries, and create memories with the meaningful people in my life. I can’t wait to see how the Big 3’s platforms and programs improve Y&G and watch how our foundations live on!
Abigail Tesfaye
79th Youth Chief Justice
I am a senior at Walnut High School with a passion for geopolitics, equity, and youth-driven change. Whether I’m leading discussions in the courtroom or collaborating across continents, I’m driven by a belief in the power of young people to shape policy and create meaningful impact. Outside of Youth & Government, I lead a global nonprofit that supports humanitarian relief in Nigeria, expands civic education in South Asia, and partners with youth activists on policy initiatives for South Sudan. I also serve as an independent student advocate to the California State Senate Education Committee, where I advocate on issues ranging from special education to juvenile justice. After three years in Youth & Government, I was inspired to run for Youth Chief Justice because I want to foster stronger unity across the courts and build a more collaborative, supportive judicial program. During my term, I hope to uplift diverse voices, strengthen connections across delegations, and empower my peers to pursue justice with purpose.
